This spicy salt recipe is a good one for many reasons. When you mix salt with freshly ground spices, you can use less salt in your Indian dishes without losing on flavour.

In fact, I think that when you use this spicy salt, you'll prefer it to the plain stuff!

This spicy salt recipe was suggested to me by a doctor friend of mine. He is originally from Southern India and this was his family recipe. He uses it in everything from delicious curries to T-bone steaks.

I should say that this is almost his family recipe. We all have different taste preferences and the mixture you see below is mine. Feel free, however to adjust the spices to your preferences.

I used Maldon salt because I love it. If you aren't familiar with Maldon salt, it's a nice flaky sea salt and definitely worth sourcing.

Any good quality salt will do though.

I always have this spicy salt on hand.

As you will see in the recipe, this spicy salt recipe is really easy to make and it lasts for months.

So whip up a batch and keep it for whenever you want that amazing flavour in any of your dishes. It works well with meat, seafood and vegetables.

Useful Tips

If you have a spice or coffee grinder, I recommend grinding the cinnamon and almonds yourself. This is certainly not necessary but improves the flavour.

You can add this salt to any Indian dish. For that matter, you can add it to a lot of more Western dishes with great success. Add it to burgers instead of salt alone or make your next chicken sandwich a little more interesting.

Used sparingly it actually adds a lot more flavour than salt alone and it is better for you.
